Hi there, thanks for visiting my website! I'm Mi a scientist and hobby baker from Sydney, Australia. I've been baking for as long as I can remember. My dad has a super sweet tooth and when we were kids he always brought home special treats for us! I blame him for my sugar addiction. My early baking attempts didn't always turn out as I had hoped but my dad would always eat them with a big smile on his face and tell me how delicious it was - even the time when I made rock hard muffins. I'd like to think my baking skills have improved since then.
I'm a scientist by day which I think in part explains why I love baking so much, carefully measuring out ingredients and piping icing is not so different to a day of weighing out chemicals and pipetting in the lab. Right? My favourite recipes are the ones that are simple, there is nothing more satisfying than the smell of vanilla cupcakes baking in the oven. Don't get me wrong, I love a baking challenge and sugar craft but looks aside the most important thing is that it tastes good! :)
In 2012, I started my first food blog "MiNa's Food Adventures" together with fellow scientist Na. Mini-Mi arrived in 2013 and suddenly I didn't have as much time to bake anymore, who knew that babies took up so much of your time! After winning the "Great Scientific Bake Off" in 2015 with my fellow baker Patty I realised how much I missed creating sweet treats. So it was time for me to embark on a new adventure "Mi's Cake Laboratory". This website contains most of my posts from "MiNa's Food Adventures" as well as new ones from 2016 onwards. A place to share my baking adventures and experiments!
